If you are going to Egypt, check that it is included on your travel insurance policy. The renewal letter from my insurer says that they not longer include Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia in their policies for Europe. I don’t know if other insurers will follow suit.

Thank you have checked with. Insurance and the problem seems to be people travelling to sharm,or the red sea area

Hurghada to Cairo is not a day trip unless you fly. We went from Luxor to Cairo for the day but went on a Thomas Cook organised trip by plane. We were travelling independently but TC didn't mind who booked on their trip as long as they sold the seats and they were selling the trips from the hotel we were staying in. Their organised trip was perfect as we had time at the pyramids (with enough time to go into one of the pyramids, the sphynx and the Cairo museum as well as a stop off for lunch. Camel rides at the pyramids are just independent people and are not cheap. Expect to pay £200 plus each for the day.

I'll second that as a general observation.
Not sure about Egypt though - we did an organised trip through our travel provider, well organised and conducted.

I've been in excess of 10 times and I used a company called Falcon Adventure. They are based in Egypt but you can contact and book from the UK.
I've done the bus trip and the flight to Cairo…there's no comparison. Bus was around 7 hours when I went and we got stopped at a checkpoint which added a lot of time and anxiety to the journey

When you say booking through TU do you mean TUI?
If your travel insurance is with the firm you are traveling with double check that you are insured for their trips. In fact I'd want that in writing. Holiday companies use outside agencies obviously. But don't assume that the insurance covers you.
Same if you have your own insurance. Ring and check that you are covered for what you plan to do.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Try TripAdvisor. We've booked stuff through them a few times in different countries.

I used GetYourGuide in Madeira and they were fine.

Hurghada is nowhere near the Pyramids, you would need to fly to Cairo for that.
You can go to Valley of the Kings & the Temple of Karna & sail along the Nile
However it is a very long day, we were picked up at 3.00am (first on mini bus) and returned at 11.30pm, was it worth it -yes its a great experience but very tiring. We booked ours via Get your Guide but there are several and they all seem to do the same trip.
