Direct Debits in joint accounts on death of one person
Hi All
Me and the Mrs are knocking on so we wanted to sort our finances out so that all D/Ds were coming out of a joint account and would automatically continue after one of us carked. Having opened up a Starling account and laboriously transferred all D/Ds for this purpose we discovered that this wouldn't in fact happen and the survivor would have to laboriously whilst grief stricken manually move all the D/Ds to the individual account. Anyone know of a UK bank whereby D/Ds from a joint account would automatically continue after the death of one account holder. Thanks D/B

Why do you think Starling wouldnt continue?
A joint account is 100% owned by all account holders so when one is deceased the remaining account holders continue to own all of it and it sits outside probate etc so not frozen.

The account isn't frozen but the D/Ds have to be manually moved across to the remaining single account.

Barclays Just remove the deceased name from the account, the surviving account holder can continue using it - no need to transfer anything.
Monzo do require the DD to move, but they will do everything for you and there's no time limit.

Lloyds also just remove the deceased name from bank account snd survivor continues as a sole account.
There will also be a need to advise the utility provider etc if the utility account is in one name.1 -
That is not what it says here,

FirstDirect. Nothing was frozen, no change of account number, no change to any DDs.

My parents had joint accounts with Halifax, Nationwide and Lloyds. All just removed Mum's name leaving account in Dad's sole name and all direct debits just continued as they had before
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur1 -
This is direct from bank
What happens next
- The account will still work as normal, but we’ll freeze the person’s card straightaway and make sure their device can no longer access the account or receive notifications.
- The money in the account will become the property of the other joint account holder. They’ll need to move any money out of the joint account, and rearrange any Direct Debits they need to keep.

think you've misinterpreted what they are saying. If the DD's are with the suppliers under the deceased name then you need to contact them to update/amend the DD's and or payment transfers.

I have interpreted this as meaning that even if say electricity payments coming out from the joint account are in my name and the Mrs carks then I will still need to rearrange the D/D as the joint account as such will cease to exist and therefore account number will be wrong.
Basically what I am looking for is a joint account where all D/Ds etc continue uninterrupted following the death of one account holder. This appears to e possible as some posters above have indicated.
