Are you only wanting a boiler ?

If so unless you know a gas safe plumber to install it you may find it hard to get one to install it for you as they get a good mark up on buying a boiler to install in clients premises.

  • Yes, already have someone who could install. Good mark up.in sense you mean I would get it heavily discounted than buying it myself? That it be cheaper for rhem.t9 buy and install?

They can buy at trade prices whereas you would be buying retail, which will be more expensive than trade. I don't know what the mark up is on boilers. They also make a bit on the side with the metal from the old boiler.

The other thing to consider is if the boiler malfunctions and you have personally bought the boiler you might be the one who has to deal with any warranty claims as the contract will be with you. If it turns up with a part missing you have to deal with it etc If the gas heating engineer supplies and fits then he is the one who would deal with it so in theory less hassle for you.

You also need to ensure the person installing it for you completes the necessary building regs paperwork and registering the installation with the manufacturer. Most gas safe registered engineers can self certify so it's not a big issue as long as they remember to do so.

Have you got someone to install or you know someone who could?

What price are they charging for installation only if you have a quote?

As the last post says warranty could be an issue if you buy it yourself but you will have to your homework on this.

Last time I had a new boiler, the engineer said just leave the old one at the end of the driveway and the travelling scrap merchants/travellers will pick it up- which they did in a few hours ! To be fair the area has a lot of these types.

City Plumbing or Screwfix would be my choice - The former will deliver for free in most parts of the country.

Also worth fitting larger radiators all round (50% bigger if you can manage). That would enable you to run at lower flow temperatures (I run at 40-50°C) and get better efficiency out of the boiler. Paired with a smart thermostat, you should be able to reduce your gas consumption by a fair bit.

I'd also suggest you look at installing a heat pump - Might cost a bit more than a gas boiler & radiators, but running costs should be lower. You can also get rid of the gas connection and save by not paying the standing charge.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
