Hi, We have a Diesel Vauxhall Astra, it goes fine, however the heater is playing up, one day it will work fine then the next, it will just not go, i know that i am being thick but i know next to nothing about the mechanics of cars, sad arn't i. Do any of you guy's and gals have any idea what the problem could be? What with the weather being as it is, sooooo cold, it's getting on our nerves. Hope that someone can help. Thank you.

Sounds like a loose wire or connector to me. Some days it is making the circuit, some not. However, where in the length of the system you'd find that, is anybody's guess.
Although I'd also check the fuse wasn't loose. It might be on a circuit of other things that don't work but they are things you're not using so don't notice.0 -
Do you mean the heater fan (the actual blowing action) does not turn on? When mine stopped working on my car a good spray of WD40 on the connectors got it working again, but then again mine is easily accessible in the engine bay. I think most live inside the dash these days?! So I would consider water ingress as a possibility.0
