USB ports not detecting camera - HELP!!

I've been having problems recently with all my USB ports on my pc, only 2 (out of 6) seem to be working ok. I now have to connect to the internet via ethernet and I've now found that my Nikon camera isn't being picked up as a 'removable drive' at all. I've uninstalled and installed all the software with no luck.

I recently bought the Canon PIXMA MP460 printer and connected it via USB - its working great.

Not sure why its stop recognising my camera, I've got loads of photos I need to upload - I feel

If its anything technical I'll need an idiots guide to sort it, really appreciate any help please :j

It might be worth installing the camera drivers again, but follow the instructions carefully, the software will either want you to have the camera plugged in first, or not to plug in the camera until they are fully installed - missing this step can result in frustration!

sounds more like a usb port problem rather than camera drivers.
remove the usb ports and reinstall them with your mobo disk. or recovery disk supplied by the computer maker.
also check if there are any updated usb drivers for your mobo/puter.
    Get some gorm.

I think you're right ormus that its more likely to do with the usb ports rather than the camera software (I've uninstalled and installed enough times to know...). Only problem is I'm useless when it comes to computer repair, so whilst I totally accept your technical superiority I've no idea how to do that. Any suggestions or indeed an idiots guide would be most welcome.

    Cheers!

Right-click My Computer, choose Properties, then the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.

The USB Ports should be listed near the bottom of the list as "Universal Serial Bus controllers", if they are working correctly they'll just have a USB icon, if not there'll be a warning triangle.

You can remove any of these by right clicking and choosing Uninstall.

Rebooting then will usually allow the system to either auto-detect the ports, or require you to reinstall the port drivers with the CDs which came with your PC (usually the motherboard drivers).

If it is a an additional PCI USB card in the PC, remove the ports as above. Shut the PC down and physically remove the card. Reboot and shutdown. Then physically re-insert the card, and restart, the hardware will the be detected.
