thanks for replies this pension has already had the 25% tax free taken so it is now 'crystalised' or 'accessed'
I suppose once you get used to the procedures its easy but they dont explain very well on their site

Noted that this pension has had the tax free taken. You wondered about adding £2880 to a fresh SIPP. I see no reason why you could not add it to this one.

can someone please explain..
my transfer value shown
I added £80 (from permitted £2880) for fees
£20 tax relief show but not added yet when?
I took a small payment £1 from the £80 (unaccessed)to see what would happen to tax code
which changed from 1257L to 1161L why? ( I recently took £7200 from another pension)
£2.11 gross interest added where from?

Cannot comment on when tax relief will show up but it could be a month or two depending on the timing of the contribution and when the provider puts in its claim.
On the tax code you should have had a notice showing how the tax code has been changed and why. It may be you have to go to your online tax account to see it if you haven't opted to get everything in the post.
The gross interest suggests you maybe had some cash sitting around in September?

AJ Bell have a very good help function which includes a chat button. This gets you through to a real person very quickly during business hours and will get you answers a lot quicker than posting here.
I’m not a fan of the AI chatbots that seem to answer every question apart from the one that you asked but their chat is genuinely helpful.

ah ! the 'interest' must be from Bell's delay in buying the fund I ordered

I was of the impression the 'tax code' tells you how much allowance you have for the year I used up about £9300 so was expecting the code to be 300ish?

The Tax Code Notice usually explains how they work oyt your new tax code.

Heres my plan:
put £2880 into SIPP
HMRC will add £720 tax relief
this will be unaccessed/uncrystalised so I can take 25% tax free £900
then I can take £1630 this tax year (£12570 - other income ) also tax free
Q if I therefore took 900 + 1630 = £2530 in a month would it be taxed??
0 -
The tax free £900 would not be taxed as it is tax free ! The £1630 would be.
Note that the tax relief can take usually between 6 and 11 weeks to appear.
