Checking my spread sheets, I used 3,545 electrical units in the last year. This works out at £956 a year

So you are paying 27p a unit which looks like the SVT. - I think you can do a lot less

Just taken a 2 year fix at 24.1

PS you also look to be a relatively high user - go you have gas for heating?

    Don't forget it's only for 6 months until 1st April 2027

    I make that £45.52 saving.

Nope, it'll be less because the VAT won't be removed for a full year, only for six months. So perhaps £30 or so, depending whether electricity is used for heating.

Like the previous £150 off average energy bills, the VAT removal will be eaten up by other cost increases so all you can really say is that prices would have been even worse than they currently are and the only reaction that works is to use less and less electricity and gas. Solar and batteries are viable aides at the moment but may not be in the future, so any payback calculation is tenuous but setting them up to survive grid failures has a lot of merit. Phasing out energy retailers in favour of direct sales from a re-nationalized Grid the optimum route out of the current rip-off situation.

I believe that the VAT saving is just for 6 months.

Edit, I see someone has already said that.

I've calculated that my "saving" is going to be worth 2 pints of lager and a (large) packet of crisps !!

Love this brewerdave. Let's not think of it as a "savings" - but what can we get as a freebie.

For me, I estimate 1 Fish & Chips meal in December and 1 Fish and Chips meal in January - perhaps with a Coke. Beyond pathetic !

  • I take it you would rather not save any money.

Odd attitude on a money saving site.
