Energy with different suppliers
Hi, just wanted to know what the thought are of getting gas and electric from different suppliers?
Was considering getting an EV tariff with EDF for 6.99p per unit and Gas rate with British Gas at 7.24p per unit fixed for a year.
If I get the EV tariff and gas with EDF it will be quite a lot more per unit for the gas on a fixed tariff.

All quite normal. In fact, it's the traditional way.

Unless you plan new smart meters - where you can get into problems with gas suppliers - BG / SG in particular - not at least keen (if not unable) to do anything to get them connected via an electricity suppliers comms hub - then feel free.
Another area Ofgem really need to clamp down on.
As above most homes used to have two suppliers. Many still do.

I already have a smart meter so hopefully no issue. Just no display unit to monitor may be a pain. Is there a way around that?

I'm with EDF for electricity and So Energy for gas. It does work with smart meters, providing everything is working correctly. It's a bit of a pain when something stops working, as you now have two suppliers both using the same comms hub.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
7.24p per kWh is a cheap gas fix in the current market. Are there any catches - an increased standing charge, for example, or a long lock-in period with a high early exit fee?
Are you sure it's a current tariff and not an offer from weeks ago?

BG Cap Tracker plus Sep 27 is currently 7.26p kwh, standing charge 20.89p per day (goes up or down w/ cap)
Their SVT is currently 7.26p per kwh with a 29.12p per day SC
Their fix and fall Sep 28 is 8.34p and 30.47p SC (comes down if cap does, doesn't go up)
My current fix (Feb 27) is 5.35p / 33.56p SC
BG treat gas and electric as two separate accounts even if you have both with them, so it's easy to switch one or the other.

Eon will supply gas only but only by a phone call to cs
