i duly signed up to open a basic account on the premise of gaining £100 after spending £600 over 3 months on the run up to christmas. on further delving into this santander have stated they know nothing of this promotion, so ive closed the account already. very weird.

Unfortunate you closed the account. That offer is linked to voucher cloud and from experience customer service staff never know about these deals as the payment is handled by Voucher Cloud so they don't need to know

When you say 'Santander' who do you mean? Someone in a branch, a call centre operator, the CEOs office?

I'm not sure why an online agent would know about third party referral offers if it's not something that is being promoted by Santander. Sounds like you've been a bit hasty.

As others have stated, this promotion is run for Santander by a third party marketing agency called VoucherSent.
Any queries about the offer should have been sent to them, not Santander.
By closing the account you can no longer avail of the offer.
