Water leak from boiler after torrential rain

He … showed me the blocked condensate trap bottle, then shook and emptied all the gunk out of…. Total cost £95 inc. VAT.
😁😁😁
And I see better and cheaper covers on Ebay and Ali.

We had to be safe so had to call someone out, was dreading the combi-boiler being full of water and that the electrics had been compromised, so (£75 hourly rate plus VAT) = £90 was worth it for our peace of mind (and I got see how to remove the boiler cover, and the trap bottle for future purposes - if needed).

Apologies, it was £90 not £95, post edited.

Didn't Grumpy codger mention something about a blocked condensate trap earlier on this thread?
Glad you got it sorted.

Although it is straightforward, and although you can almost certainly manage this yourself, you 'shouldn't' - it's technically a GasSafe job to take the front cover off.
Just add it to the tasks to be carried out at the next service, if they don't automatically do it. A trap will usually take a few years to fill with debris.
And if the trap is empty of water, it'll soon fill.
I wouldn't bother with the rain guard - it was exceptional conditions, coupled with a blocked trap.

Thanks all, was getting further worried as this video shows you should fill the empty trap after emptying and cleaning it:
How To Clean Ideal Boiler Condensate Trap - YouTube
Like I said, I didn't get to see if the engineer filled mine up after the cleaning of junk in it and the photo (that was attached to their invoice) below doesn't look like it has water in also
EDITED: Sorry didn't read WIAWSNB said "if the trap is empty if water, it'll soon fill"

Condensate will be formed as soon as the boiler is used. The level only needs to reach the bottom of that vertical tube - a cm? - before it's 'sealed'. And in any case the exhaust via there will be minimal, and should exit outside via the pipe.
Manually filling the trap is a to-be-sure to-be-sure move.
