Paypal Credit - Pre-scheduled payment system changes the date!

Hi All

I have a major problem with my paypal credit account and i am wondering if anyone else out there is currently dealing with the same problem - or can test their paypal credit account and see if they have the same problem!

I have always used Paypals 'pre-scheduled' payment option - so at the beginning of the month, i schedule a payment for my pay day at the end of the month. I have never had a problem with payments but i like this option over a direct debit as it keeps control in my hands regarding amount to pay and when (Within the confines of minimum payment and due by dates obviously).

a few months ago payments started coming out a day earlier than scheduled which at first i thought was my fault. But it kept happening, so i screen shotted my confirmation screen (Payment due on 30th for example) and when i checked my account, the system had changed it to the 29th!! Paypal gave me back a couple of the auto charges i had incurred as i was able to prove it wasnt my fault and was their payment system. But after 4 weeks of 'investigation' it still occurs now and they have been completely unable to assure me anything has happened by way of investigation - 'managers' give me terrible advise which blows my mind given they are a financial institution. I have received some advise from the financial ombudsman and submitted an official complaint - so the clock is now ticking for Paypal to do something before i escalate it.

Anyone else had this? Or worth trying the system to see if it happens to you too! Definitely worth looking into as their system doesnt track when the payment is set up - it just shows as a manual payment when the system attempts to take payment. Its quick shocking how little paypal see or how little they care!

Have you read the terms and conditions of the account and checked how it works e.g. if it says the payment is made a day before? As an example, my Santander credit card says payment is due, say on the 23rd but they will take the DD on the 22nd per the statement

Do note the FOS will not force them to change how they operate e.g. if they say the payment is taken a day before for whatever reason, that will not be changed by a complaint

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Thanks - Yes, checked all the ToS - As long as i am within the payment window, the payment system should be taken whenever i schedule it to do so. So my pay by date is the 8th of the month - i am scheduling a payment for the 30th of the month prior - and it changes to the day before. When testing this out, it doesnt matter what date i schedule it for - it always changes it to the day before.

Its so strange as it never did this before and it is, ultimately, a manual payment - just scheduled. The system is at fault and no one can seem to work out why it is doing it.

If it always brings the date forward by a day then the obvious workaround during investigation is to set the payment date as a day later than you want! Clearly that shouldn't be necessary, and they should fix the issue, but it's probably the most pragmatic approach in the short term…

  • I am just not using the scheduled payment facility anymore other than just to see if it had been fixed - but it is concerning when you cant trust a financial institutions payment system.

I hope its just confined to me as others could end up being charged for failed payments when it isnt actually their fault.

Yes, I have noticed the date changing forwards.one.day. But I noticed it just after I booked it, so I cancelled and rebooked a day later, and also.discussed it with them. It seems.to.happen most times

When they do take debit.card payment, it becomes pending late in the evening on the date it states,.then quite often takes 2 or 3 dates to be finalised, so either it won't matter, or there may be a question whether your bank charges interest on a pending payment that appears to be causing an overdraft. Most opinion.says they shouldn't.
