Self-assessment and child benefit

Hello,

As I am filing my tax return I am unsure about the question regarding child benefit. I am a sole trader and earning below £ 60,000 ( my partner too ). I am receiving Child benefit. Do i still need to answer yes to the question - Did you or your partner (if you have one) get Child Benefit payments during the year 2025-26? (This also applies if the child living with you is not your child) ?

many thanks

The question doesn't have any exclusions around earnings or employment status, so you should answer it honestly.

Answer yes, under 60k each there's nothing to pay. Just measure that 60k on total income, not business profit, savings interest counts too.

the answer to the question do you get child benefit is yes, saying no would be attempted fraud.

the implication of saying yes depends on what your total income is in relation to the 60k threshold, but that is a different question
