Cut sprouting grasses on dry lawn?
Comments

I have just cut my lawn today, with the recent rain, it has grown and mostly green, I have used the washing-up water on it occasionally.
I always mow high; plenty of season left, you should get some rain too. I would certainly be cutting it.

I have no knowledge on the subject matter.
I have, however, cut my grass today. It is my understanding that the "sprouting grass" is not actually the grass but weeds. I also understand that the weeds decrease if challenged with the stress of regular cutting while the actual grass strengthens. I doubt it is as simple as that.

What is the height of the majority of grass? And is it green?
Could you use a strimmer to take it down by half?
It's most likely a different variety.
I wouldn't risk mowing just yet after the summer shock it's had and the plants aren't all that keen on chlorinated water. Then there's the compaction of walking and mower roller but with cooler weather and shorter days I'd say leave it for a couple of weeks. Then mow to your heart's content.
Our grass is still parched. My neighbour strimmed the straggly bits and it looks better, just, but I'm letting it all grow and look healthy before I set too.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I cut mine every 2 or 3 weeks throughout the hot weather. Its a stretch of the imagination to call it a lawn. It's normally green and looks great when it's been cut but all I've really been doing is cutting off the weeds so they don't get to high.
