How to Contact Barclays or Barclaycard via Message or Chat

Is anyone with a Barclays or Barclaycard account able to use their Chat or Message service, either online or via the apps?

I have had a Barclaycard account for years and recently a Barclays account (to get the switch offer) and I cannot believe that the only way I can get in touch is to call an 0345 number!

Their "Contact Us" page mention a Chat service both online and in the app but it is only an AI bot which is really poor at understanding any question and I can never reach a person who can get back to me as is suggested the Chat service will do. Doesn't matter what time I try it.

There is a "Message Us" button online but clicking it does nothing.

I found a Barclays Facebook page and did manage to find out how to post a query there under Mentions. I asked how I used Chat or Message and the reply that they sent (three times!) was just a link to their Contact Us page.

If you go to their System Status page it has a green tick against their Message service but it doesn't work for me.

Can anyone click on their online "Message Us" option and tell me if it works for them? Or let me know if they got through to a person via Chat?

Thanks

Is this just happening today? If so, maybe cos it's a bank holiday?

I always use an old 0800 number as like to talk rather than type.

Same here. The AI chat just goes round in circles, and I can’t get through to a real person either. Very frustrating!

The chat facility doesn't work and hasn't since the end of last year for me. The only way to contact them is via phone which is annoying because I like evidence of my chats and when trying to get through to the right department the phone automated system always seems to send me to the wrong one or round in circles.

Phone from within the app and it makes the ID&V process much quicker.

It's happened for years with Barclaycard (never worked for me) but I've just joined Barclays and it's no different 😞

What's wrong with an 0345 number?

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I know lots of people with mobile contracts will have inclusive minutes but I have to pay for it. OK it might be local call rates but it's still a cost for me to contact them about a problem of their creation.

    Plus I hate having to phone when I know from experience that it's going to take ages;

    1. I'm going to start with a lengthy set of recorded messages with options
    2. I'm going to have hold music after the initial messages
    3. I'm going to be waiting for ages to actually speak to someone
    4. I will have to go through security again, even though I already did that with my keypad and the recorded messages
    5. The first person I speak to will not know the answer
    6. I'll be put on hold while they look into my issue
    7. They will come back with additional questions
    8. I will be put back on hold
    9. The call will probably get dropped and I'll start back at 1.

If it's non-urgent, I just want to send a message, email or use Chat (with a person) to ask something, so it's in writing and the support person can look into and get back to me.

I don't know of any bank except Barclays that insists on calls only - albeit they say they have Chat and Message options, despite them never working

I phoned from within the app the other day and I got through and they dealt with my query really quickly.
