H and L keeps logging me out

Hello this morning H and L keeps logging me out as soon as I change page on their website. Has anyone else got this problem?

Might be worthwhile doing the old cookie and cache clearing thing in your browser. That catches me out 108% of the time and I waste time resetting passwords, finding a contact email, waiting for a reply, then whichever business's support desk then suggests I clear the cookies and cache. 😅 Might not make any difference but it's a 1 minute job you can do immediately.

Pretty sure you are referring to Hargreaves Lansdown.

I use their mobile app frequently with no issues ( opened fine just now). Any reason why you don't use the app with rapid biometric login?

Maybe the OP means H and E, the old Health and Efficiency magazine that we used to snigger about.

…or perhaps OP has stumbled on a clone site designed to catch out the numerous people who seem to think there's an 'and' in the company's name?

I don't any longer have HL accounts but remember they kept logging me out of online after 5 minutes of inactivity. Scrolling documents / researching funds etc didn't appear to count as activity. I didn't use their app much but can't recall any annoying logging out.

Slightly off topic, but there was a thread sometime ago about the very small but potentially serious risk of having investment/pension apps on your phone, where there might be sums in the hundreds of thousands of Pounds involved.

A seriously violent robber/burglar could force you physically to open the app, and their attitude to you could change for the worse if they could see you had a large amount of funds to your name.

Of course it is a very very unlikely situation, and personally I am not normally prone to paranoia. However I had always had a vague concern about carrying around all my financial info on a mobile phone, and after reading the thread I did delete the relevant apps. ( HL being one at the time) I still have bank and credit card apps. so I am not concerned about security per se, but just feel more comfortable.

One added advantage is not checking them so often !

    Point taken.

However but both investment apps ( HL & ii) together with all my banking apps ( apart from Chase) are all on a Samsung tablet which is kept at home.

My tablet is used in preference to my old laptop for most functions apart from my annual tax return.

I think people who load financial apps with accounts and assets of any significant magnitude on their mobile phone ( taken out of the home ), are pretty brave. I certainly don't and wouldn't.

I'm in the (maybe) fortunate position of having so many bank apps on my phone, most with small balances, that any robber would probably get bored going through finding nothing before hitting the jackpot. Out of interest thought I'd check and current count is 26. Only 2 have any significant balances.

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I have 72 financial apps on my iPhone, which goes where I go. All of them require FaceID to be opened (in addition to any login FaceID), as does the phone itself, and if there is 2FA, that's enabled. Apps like Messenger, Whatsapp, Mail, Authenticator which might be used for 2FA also require FaceID. The whole thing is much safer than my Windows laptop, which generally stays at home.

I should add that I am generally careful were I am going, and I always avoid crowded places. Should disaster strike and my phone gets lost or stolen, I can remotely wipe it but hopefully I will never need to do this.
