  • Nothing is ever completely 'free' - there was always going to be a catch.
I'm not saying what they did was in any way OK (which it wasn't) but free is never actually free.

Under the GDPR's "one-stop-shop" mechanism, a company operating across multiple member states answers primarily to the Data Protection Authority (DPA) where its main EU establishment resides, in this instance the Czech Republic. As I stated, at the time of the investigation the UK was also operating under this mechanism.

I don’t believe the ICO would reopen this historic gpdr case, but that’s just my opinion

I have had the same email. At first I thought this was a scam but it now seems that it is genuine.

I think that to have any sort of claim you will need to prove some sort of loss. Personally I have been using the software but am not sure that I have had any loss whatsoever if they have sold any data on.

I am inclined to accept the offer of two years free antivirus software... I don't think it is worth £160 as I tend to get my software from Amazon or similar rather than the company direct but it is certainly worth having and better than nothing.

I'm not sure what everybody is expecting to get out of the company if they are not going to accept the software offer?

    Titch :)
  • I have had the same email, however I have been paying for AVG for many years so this offer of the two years free seems good to me. I believe the offer is genuine, you can read about it on Avasts website. I also did not need to prove that there had been any cost to myself, the email read that they had already identified me as a customer during the years where the GDPR breach was concerned. I have not yet waived my rights but I probably will in the next few days.

  • Yes I have had the same email and not taken any action due to concerns of its authenticity. Good to know you are looking at it.
