Octopus Fixed Tariff Quote
I'm an existing Octopus Energy customer on a fixed tariff that ends on October 2nd.
On Tuesday night, before the price cap changes were announced, I generated a new quote for an 18month fixed tariff. You don't seem to be able to switch to a new tariff online, so I emailed them that evening and asked to be switched.
On Friday (after the price cap changes), they emailed me back saying they couldn't give me an 18 month tariff and offered me a 12 month fix at a higher rate. Do they have to honour the quote they gave me online? If not I don't see that I was given any opportunity to accept it and that feels like it was false advertising - I could have taken a fix with someone else on Tuesday, otherwise.
Thanks for any advice.

How was the quote generated, on their site or a comparison site? Whichever it was, what do the terms of the quote say about the validity of the quote in time terms?

You don't seem to be able to switch to a new tariff online
If you're approaching the end of an existing fix (and you were) you can generally switch online or via the Octopus app. Octopus do have an unfortunate habit of messing about with their website, so options move around and aren't always obvious.
Do they have to honour the quote they gave me online?
No.
If not I don't see that I was given any opportunity to accept it
Per the Octopus Fixed Tariffs thread on the Energy forum, the "18M Fixed August V1" tariff was launched on the 25th (Tuesday) and withdrawn on the 27th (Thursday). If you'd phoned them during working hours on the Wednesday, or picked it via app or website, you'd have been able to accept the fix.

"don't seem to be able to switch to a new tariff online"
On your dashboard, it's right there "Change My Tariff >" — I just used this the other day to re-fix my 12 month fix with Octopus.
It's possible they "hid" the option if they were in the middle of tearing down tariff options and adding new ones due to the price cap change?
