Beware of Travel republic

Our experience with Travel Republic was an absolute nightmare from beginning to end.

We booked and fully paid for a 10-day holiday, and we received a booking confirmation from Travel Republic. We have proof of the original booking and proof of the booking details Travel Republic sent to the hotel.
The problems started on arrival. Travel Republic had sent the hotel the wrong booking dates. Because of their mistake, our family was left without the room we had paid for and we had to sleep on sofas at the hotel while waiting for Travel Republic to resolve the situation with the hotel.

We thought that was bad enough — but it got even worse.

On the 8th day of our holiday, while our children were happily swimming, the hotel suddenly contacted us and told us we had to check out because Travel Republic had sent them a booking showing that that day was our checkout date.

We still had two days left on the holiday we had paid for.

The hotel contacted Travel Republic, and we contacted them as well, but there was no meaningful response. Thankfully, the hotel believed us because we had our official Travel Republic confirmation and understood that the mistake was not ours.

The hotel offered us alternative accommodation. We had no real choice but to accept because we were all wet, in our swimming clothes, with our children, and suddenly had to deal with a serious problem that Travel Republic had caused.

The alternative hotel was also five-star, but it was clearly a much cheaper and completely different level of hotel from the one we had paid for. Travel Republic did not even offer to pay the difference between what we had paid for and what we were eventually given.

And then, unbelievably, in the middle of our holiday, Travel Republic demanded an additional £803 for a booking modification.

A modification caused by their own booking error.

We had already paid in full and had received our booking confirmation. Yet they still tried to make us pay another £803.

When we asked for compensation, they offered £400. Considering that we paid thousands of pounds for a 10-day family holiday and spent a huge part of it dealing with Travel Republic’s mistakes, this was completely inadequate.

Travel Republic managed to cause problems at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of our holiday.

They sent the wrong booking dates to the hotel twice. We have the documentation to prove this, including the original booking, the incorrect bookings sent to the hotel, and the email demanding £803.

This was supposed to be a family holiday that we had saved and paid thousands of pounds for. Instead, it became one of the most stressful and disappointing holidays we have ever experienced.

The worst part is that none of these problems were caused by us. We had paid, we had confirmation, and we simply expected Travel Republic to provide what we had booked.

I would strongly advise anyone considering booking through Travel Republic to think very carefully.

Travel Republic didn’t just make one mistake — they repeatedly mishandled our booking and left our family to deal with the consequences.

We paid for a 10-day holiday. We deserved the holiday we booked and paid for — not the stress, uncertainty and disruption that Travel Republic caused us.
