Britannia Parking v Mr S at Leicester County Court
Britannia Parking v Mr S - decided on the papers. Mr S didn't attend and didn't tell the court.
Judge was satisfied on landowner authority, signage, terms, and the non-entered VRM. The filed defence was called "hopeless" by the judge and addressed none of Britannia's points.
Worth noting, the judge queried the £70 fee of his own volition, and Britannia's advocate withdrew it without argument.
The advocate then got £150 hearing costs for unreasonable non-attendance plus procedural issues with Mr S's paperwork, and other costs on top. All within about 5 minutes.
£462 to Britannia for a £100 pcn! :o

Salutary tale of the dangers of unreasonably not turning up for a court hearing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he now doesn’t pay the costs, then turns up here for help once the likes of DCBL start chasing. The £462 is getting close enough to the £600 threshold (which DCBL might push it up to) for High Court Enforcement.

Perhaps better to have titled the thread with some reference to Britannia and the case, rather than focusing on your attendance?

Indeed he seems to have. But I thought it was worth noting that even in a very bad circumstance for a defendant the court is still pressing on the additional £70 charges of its of volition.
