Excel Parking - Parking Charge Notice, Sheffield (paid at wrong machine)

Hi, I've received a parking charge notice from Excel Parking from when someone parked in the car park at a university building in Sheffield. Payment was made, but unfortunately it was made to the wrong operator (payment was done on a machine within touching distance of the car park, but it turns out that was for street parking not the actual car park).

I've been to the building and it appears that the reception desk is permanently closed, so will be emailing them.

Is there anything else I can do? I'll appeal to them (I'm sure will be rejected).

Attached is the redacted letter.

Template defence (with a slight reword) for the appeal?

As it happens, a friend also parked in the same place, the day before, and I paid using the same incorrect machine, yet they have not received a PCN (it's now been just under 3 weeks from the parking date). Not sure what I can do there? Or if too much time has lapsed for them to get in touch?

Any help always appreciated!

Also attached is a picture of the car park in question, and the machine I used to pay (though paid on phone).

Thanks!!!!

Unless the friend has a leased/company fleet car, I'd be concerned your friend's logbook address is out of date and the PCN will have gone to their old address.

Tell them to check their V5C.

As for the PCN you have, there's no point appealing and IMHO that P&D machine is clearly on-street (outside of the fence) and nothing to do with the car park.

You will struggle in court and Excel do attend hearings. I almost never say this but you might want to pay it at £60 and move on. You should have read the signs inside the car park.

I just don't see an out.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Yikes, I never thought I'd see the day you recommend to pay. Fair enough was my fault. More fantastic things I definitely can afford yay
