Are you talking about 2 policies, your Mum's policy for her car on which you are a named driver, and your own policy for a second car?

If you are renewing your own insurance for your own car then no.

If your Mum is a named driver on your policy however……

  • yes i am a named driver on my mums policy and my own insurance is coming up for renewal do i have to inform my insurance of the accident my mother had as i am a named driver on her policy

  • i know if it was me who had the accident on my mums policy i would hve to inform my insurance but i wasn't sure if i had to if it was my mother driving

    No

"Accidents, claims, convictions". It wasn't your accident and it wasn't your policy to have a claim on.

Only if your mother is a named driver on your policy

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • mother is not on my policy so looks like i do not need to declare her accident to my insurance at renewal time

No, the time that it would be complex is if you were the policyholder on your mums car despite her being the main driver

This is at the very bottom of the page so what is correct ??

    Important: Even
though it wasn't the policyholder who had the accident, they will be
required to report it as a ‘claim’ when getting quotes or buying
insurance in the future. The additional driver will also need to report
it as an ‘accident’ when getting quotes or buying insurance.

That would apply if the OP had the accident whilst driving the mother's car.

Insurers ask a question along the lines of

"Have you (or any named driver) had any accidents, made any claims, or suffered any losses in respect of a motor vehicle?"

If the OP holds insurance of their own and the mother is not a named driver on the policy, then the OP has not had an accident, not made a claim and not suffered any loss themselves.

(Basically the OPs insurer wants to know if the OP or anyone who is going to drive the OPs car has crashed, been crashed into, claimed on insurance or had an incident and not claimed for it as this affects the level of risk, and hence the policy price)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

But if they were the policyholder on their mothers car, which we are all assuming they arent though technically they only definitively stated that their mother is the main driver which isnt the same thing, then they would have to declare it on their own policy too because its the policyholder that makes the claim even if they weren't the one driving at the time. If it was limited to the person driving at the time then 90% of theft claims would never have to be reported
