Faulty bed
hi I bought a 'Heavy Duty - reinforced' divan bed base, from Divan Base Direct, in Dec'25…delivered in Jan'26. 2 weeks ago, the bed corner, collapsed. My son, is special needs….he weighs about 11 stone. The bed broke, where his feet would be.
I bought a 'heavy duty', so it would last…i dont think 8 months, is 'fit for purpose'??
I sent pics…once you really looked, the wood seemed really cheap…the bed frame was £379. Anyway, they came back saying the 'suppliers' had said that the bed must have had 'excessive force'!!!….eh nope!! My poor son, has been lying on a mattress on the floor!!! Thankfully, he 'agreed' to it.
I asked if they would go through arbitration, they have ignored me…not sure what else to do…think they will ignore everything…. any ideas, much appreciated?

How did you pay for it?

11 stone is not heavy - assume it is a proper 'adult' bed.
Did the bed arrive fully assembled, or could there have been a mistake with the self assembly?

If it's a divan (as the retailer name implies) then the only "assembly" is usually to just connect the 2 halves. Not really something you can get wrong.

Paid by debit card…aye just 2 pieces, which i paid for them to sort (with headboard).

It's not unheard of for kids to jump on beds, so it's perhaps unsurprising that they'd conclude that, but it may be pragmatic to get an independent expert to have a look at it and offer an explanation of the root cause, which may be some form of manufacturing defect - after six months from purchase, the onus is on the buyer to demonstrate that the flaw would have been present at the time of sale, in order to exercise rights under the Consumer Rights Act.

I am struggling to understand in what way the bed has "collapsed in a corner". I don't make a thing of looking at how a bed is constructed but, just assuming that our divan base is typical, I would expect the corner to be one of the stronger parts of the whole bed.

Has a castor come off or broken, perhaps?

That crossed my mind but 'collapsed' and 'sleeping on a mattress on the floor ' seemed a bit dramatic for something that simple
