Want cheapest way to keep landline number - help needed.

Spent 24 hours trying to research this and ended up more confused than when I started.

I gather I need something app based so I know both that the call is coming via the company I pay for this service AND I know who the caller is.

I want to be able to block callers.

60 minutes a month is not enough. Not expecting many long calls but 60 minutes a week is prob a sensible starting minimum.

I only want to receive incoming calls using the landline - not make calls.

(I want to keep the landline number for people / businesses that may not call regularly but I don't want to lose touch.)

As cheap as possible.

Thanks,

Thanks very much. AFAICT Andrews and Arnold don't use an app.

I'm finding the whole thing very complicated, so I'd like to start with an app based solution. It needs to be able to block numbers. Receive at least an hour of incoming calls to the app per week included in the price.

Of those companies that do that, I'd appreciate help finding the cheapest service.

    Thanks for any help.

Why do you think that you need something app based? Once the voip provider takes over your number then that is the company forwarding your calls, no one else.

I use voipfone and all incoming calls are free of charge. If I want to forward calls to my mobile phone then that call is chargeable as an outgoing call. I can go onto their website and view all calls and block numbers as required.

The landline calls come via the broadband connection but you are also asking for them to be displayed on an app which will have totally different connectivity. I'm sure this is technically possible but how many residential users of voip would have such a requirement? You may get this with a Business voip setup but that certainly wouldn't be cheap.

Sorry, but I don't think you are going to find what you want.

Nobody pays for incoming calls, so that's not something to consider

If you want to receive the calls on a softphone client on a smartphone, then you could use something like Acrobits for Android or Apple. You would need to be connected to WiFi or have mobile data to receive a call.

Thanks for the help. I've followed your advice and gone with voipfone.
