Good BBC program to watch

Hi All,

I am sure that most of you have heard of the BBC program called "SCAM Interceptors"

Not sure if it's currently airing, but it's available on iPlayer.

I would thoroughly recommend watching a few of them, just to keep yourself in the loop about what sort of horrendous depths the scammers go to.

From what I have seen so far they have exposed the types of scam listed below (there may be more…)

• Fake Broadband provider
• Fake National Crime Agency
• Fake Crypto Wallet recovery
• Fake romance
• Fake mobile phone provider
• Fake PayPal / eBay

I really love the fact that the ethical hackers employed by the show have got the team access to the scammers offices and phone systems with the ability to see their screens.

BOTTOM LINE

Never install any remote control software (app) on your phone, tablet of computer as a result of a cold call.

Always drop the call, then call the service provider back by a known official number which should be on your bill. - Don't rely on caller Id to verify them as this is easily spoofed.

Originally at least it was part of BBC1 morning schedule, once Breakfast has finished.

Also on around this time is 'Morning Live' which seems to highlight at least one scam a day, along with looking at things like dodgy health claims etc., and 'Rip Off Britain', also on around the same time, is also full of good advice about scams and rip offs.

Although I always suspect that the people who would benefit from the advice the most are probably not watching these programmes.

On one scam interceptors programme when they contacted the woman who was being scammed and following the scammers instructions she recognised the programme name and said ‘yes, I watch that.’

She was still being scammed.

I suspect it is also an issue, with less people watching U.K. based informative programmes on terrestrial tv, instead being glued to Facebook, Netflix, Disney etc
