Confirmation C1 returned - but no note of what errors are.

Hello.
I’m trying to help with the confirmation process of a family member and thought I had nailed the C1 form! How wrong was I - returned today but with no info on what was wrong with the form.

Is it advisable to upload images here - I’m not sure if it is the wording or the numbers which are incorrect.

No IHT is due, and all bank balances were as of date of death balances. House has been valued and number inputted on the form.

Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks.

This is the wording for the declaration part. Two executors named in the will.

For a situation where there are two co-executors and there are no errors, or name or address changes for executors or the deceased, and the original will is being submitted - then below is a typical layout format:

    That I am

along with xxxxxxxxxxxx residing at xxxxxxxxxxxxx the executor-nominate of the deceased conform to the will dated 27th of November 2020 which is herewith exhibited, docquetted and signed as relative thereto and that I am the nephew of the said deceased and the said xxxxxxxxxx is the sister of the said deceased.

You could post a redacted version of the C1 if you want wider comments.

Page 4 box 19 shows no surviving children - yet one of the executors is described as a daughter.

The inventory would benefit from some change in structure. See layout image below.

I assume that the accounts are all with the same bank and that the bank is based in Scotland. The date of death balance should include interest.

As a general comment - Are you certain about house ownership and current status of the title in the land register? It is not uncommon for house ownership to be misunderstood, or to be incorrectly assumed, or to still hold the name of a previous spouse.

Shouldn’t be anyone described as a daughter - the executors are a nephew and a sister.

Title deeds are in deceased name only - previous spouse never lived in the house or had any input, so it’s definitely in sole name.

Thank you for the layout tips - I’ll tidy that up. I took all the balances from the document the bank sent me (I have included sort codes and account numbers in the inventory).

One thing I’m unsure of is docquetting (sp?) the will. I have read some sources online saying that I need to hand write a declaration on the front in ink, is this correct?

    thank you again

My mistake regarding daughter. I have changed my previous comment accordingly. However the error then jumps to box 18 - no entry for surviving sister.

The will needs to be docquetted by the declarant executor using the same date as the C1, not necessarily on the first page. Do not docquet on an unsigned cover page.

    Example:

    Aberdeen 14 July 2026

This is the will referred to in my declaration of this date to the Inventory of the estate of the late Mary Alexander Brown.

    Boris Smith

sorry to go back on this - the person declaring the c1 and the other executor don’t live at the same address. How would this be worded? Only 1 executor is making the declaration.
    thanks

Both executors are entered in box 10 of page 1 (name and address)

The declarant executor’s name and address is entered in the box at the top of page 2.

The co-executor’s name and address is included in para 2 of page 2 (as suggested previously)

Both names are entered in para 3 of page 2.
