Vanguard Launches Three New Global ETFs

These new funds would appear to be the same as existing US ETFs, but covered by UCITS. If so you can get adetailed breakdown of their underlying investments from morningstar.

The sell on VUAG happened immediately, but the buy on VALL took around
10-15 minutes to be executed, and was on the upper end of the price
range once executed. That is curious. I have never used T212. With other platforms, I have always been quoted a spread before asking for a quote. The quote comes through almost immediately with a countdown timer. If I accept the quote, it executes immediately at the quoted price.

Searching back a bit, I eventually found a trade for nearly £42k yesterday, at 16:05:53 (and over £112k at 16:05:16). But it does look like the vast majority of trades were below £10k, with many just below, as if some people were keeping it below on purpose.

T212 does not operate in the same way as more familiar platforms. You submit your order and it fills it over time. You can set a limit if you like. This probably enables internal matching and aggregation. Execution policy is described in detail in the T&C.
I have found that for the ETFs I trade, I have no complaints about the price, but it will not even let me submit very large orders.

From what I understood, fundamentally if you want to buy some shares, someone has to be willing to sell them. If there is nobody who wants to sell those shares at the moment you have to wait. Often this is not noticeable because so many people are buying and selling the big funds all the time.

Well done! I had difficulty finding them even when given the execution time. Here are the two trades:
21.08.26 16:05:16 3,6995 GBP 30,473 112,7501 AT XLON
21.08.26 16:05:53 3,6965 GBP 11,348 41,9876 AT XLONAT means that these trades were executed in the SETS order book. They seem to have got good prices. I spotted a few other big ones, but none beat your record. I thought that I might be able to find Vanguard's bulk trades, but it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack without the execution time from a contract note.

Not really. There has been a deluge of purchases. The daily turnover is huge. This is an ETF, so the absence of sellers does not matter. The ETF goes to premium, and the Authorised Participants create more shares to be sold.

There does seem to be some misunderstanding about the nature of the risk with a new ETF launch. The main risk - that of the ETF not gaining traction - is somewhat obviated by Vanguard being the issuer and it undercutting and bettering its peers in quality. The liquidity issue is marginal for a long term holder. If I didn't already hold very cheap regional ETFs, I'd be seriously considering a switch - I cared enough to do the calculation.

Are these on Scottish widows at all (iWeb) through regular investment?

Not yet, as far as I can see, but the usual rules about pestering them apply. The more interest, the more likely they'll act.
