Milk containers routinely underfilled

The milk that comes in plastic bottles in supermarkets is normally still sold by the pint, with an equivalent metric volume stated as well.

One of those anachronisms, like still buying beer in a pub by the pint.

Other way round. It's sold by the litre, with an equivalent imperial measure on the packaging. In reality it makes very little difference, but legally the only products you can sell in imperial measures are:
- draught beer or cider by pint
- milk in returnable containers by pint
- precious metals by troy ounce
You can display an imperial measurement alongside the metric measurement but it cannot stand out more than the metric measurement.

One as to be on the watch that the container says 4 pints but some stores say litres.

The line on my 4 pints of waitrose milk says approximate on it!

i’ve never even noticed that there is a line on the milk container.
Having just checked my Asda milk, there isn’t a clear line, just some writing in vaguely the right place saying approx. Guide.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.1 -
Milk has increased 10p everywhere, 4 pints now £1.75 against £1.65 a couple of weeks ago.

OK, but it is sold in 'round imperial pints' which is unusual for any food product to still refer to an imperial measure AFAIK, So a bit of an outlier.

On no it hasn't !
It is still £1.65 in Lidl (today Thu 20th Aug), but it was £1.75 in M&S last week.

Lidl are milking it here.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".1 -
Thanks molerat. I think it means that Lidl here will probably increase their price for 4 pints to £1.75 soon. It's a few weeks now and I've been buying it regularly (including yesterday at Lidl for £1.65.
I use a lot of fresh milk and a 10 pence jump all at once seems a lot. Do you know why the increase has gone up so much?
