builder has messed us about and we have paid in full he hasn’t finished job and attempted suicide what can we do?

Call the emergency services if he's in immediate danger. If the immediate emergency has been dealt with, you'll have to wait until he's recovered.

What exactly is left unfinished? Is it dangerous? Maybe have a little compassion, it sounds like a difficult situation but you are probably the least of his problems at the moment.

Learn the lesson Do Not Pay Until Job Is Completed and otherwise just wait a while. Clearly he's currently in no state to complete the work

It's really difficult to comment because you have provided no background info - so this might be a horribly insensitive comment.

Do you believe that the builder really has attempted suicide? Or does the builder tell somebody to say that to his clients, so that the clients stop chasing him to finish jobs and/or stop chasing him for refunds?

Sadly the OP doesn't seem to be very empathetic. I can understand the frustration with a job not being completed, but given the circumstances what do they think they can do?
