PrePaid Probate Ltd

Hi, This is a 'heads up' for anyone who has a Probate Plan with PrePaid Probate Ltd, Manchester based. The owner of the Company passed away in October 2022 and the number to contact to implement your Plan has been disconnected. On hearing the news in 2023 I decided to cancel my Plan as per the terms and conditions and should have received 70% of the original payment as part of the owner's Will. The people I contacted were totally unhelpful so I commenced a Civil Court action. If you have a Plan it would be interesting to hear from you.

I know nothing of the company but prepaid probate plans don't seem to be a good idea generally. This is from April 2022: https://todayswillsandprobate.co.uk/pre-paid-probate-plans-unregulated-and-risky/ and the FCA warned against them in January 2023: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/news-stories/consumer-warning-pre-paid-probate-plans

Again, I know nothing about the company but the account show net liability of £53,596 and only £2,263 of cash (Feb 2021) and no new accounts have been published since. There is no mention in the accounts of ring fencing prepayments from customers. Someone objected to Companies House striking off the company and so that has been suspended.

    You say:

should have received 70% of the original payment as part of the owner's Will

I assume that means that the estate of the company's owner should pay you back. Absent any wrong doing by the owner, that's very unlikely to be the case. If a limited company owes someone money then it cannot normally become the liability of a director or owner (exceptions apply, e.g. for fraud and dodgy tax schemes). I know nothing about whether there has been any wrong doing.
