Energy switch time again - is this an error from Outfox? and any hot tips?

Currently with Outfox Energy and in that period where we can switch…

Considering a 'collective' switch via another platform, but also potential to stay with OE, but seeing the Gas standing charge on their best tariff is ~double the other provider(s)…and thinking that can't be right, surely?

Is anyone aware of any better deals out there? (appreciate it may differ for everyone - but just in general terms)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply - yeah, I've done that & OE is still likely the best for us, marginally, but I was convinced that SC figurewas an error (or hoping!)

We are looking at a ~23% £ increase over what we are currently paying - on top of everything else, it's soul destroying!

I'm in the same boat. No other fixed deals on offer from Outfox either. Just keep thinking that it can't be right, must be an error. The unit prices are up, which I expected and elec standing charge up by around 10p. But gas standing charge doubling to 60p is crazy. Interested to hear what Martin says about it.

But gas standing charge doubling to 60p is crazy.

It looks like Outfox have bumped up the SC to keep the unit price low. That 5.8p/kWh is roughly 2p/kWh below the going rate.

For someone using 10000 kWh/yr, that's a £200 saving on units vs. the £120 extra on SC.

Interested to hear what Martin says about it.

Fixed tariffs aren't capped by Ofgem. Martin is unlikely to comment beyond "do a whole market comparison and see what's on offer from other suppliers".

Gas unit rate is up around c35% in the last 2 caps - so in order to keep that sub 6p/kWh unit rate - 2p cheaper than Ofgem svt average from next month and more widely forecast in Jan currently - they are it would seem loading the SC.

IIRC the Utilita zero SC used to double the first 2 unit rate daily for instance - at least on electric.

Its a spreadhseet check - it either works for you or doesnt - even at recently significantly reduced Ofgem 9500kWh pa median gas TDCV - c26kWh per day - 5.7p/5.9p vs new 7.97p ave Ofgem SVT - so say around 2.2p on ave difference x 26kWh/day = 57p day.

So pays for almost double the SC difference vs ave SVT cap.

I'd have been more worried about the exit fees locking you in - when it looked as if Iran might be settling down - but July and then recent weekend - makes me think the winter is going to be rougher for those on SVT like me than I had hoped.

Not so. The Outfox the Price cap tariff that I'm on is a fixed tariff, not a tracker.
