It depends what you put into the comparison site in terms of usage. Compare actual unit price costs and standing charges or you may be comparing apples and oranges.
And don't believe a word a commission based 'salesman' tells you.

A comparison site is what you needed, not some chancer salesman trying their luck at your door. I'd call Octopus ASAP and get them to block the switch before it goes through. You'll be moved over to SP within a couple of days otherwise.

The first thing I do when I open the door to a cold caller…is to close it again.

As advised if you don't want to change to SP then get the transfer stopped, now.
If you have done the sums and FUSE works for you then go ahead and change provider.

You're right but I wouldnt have thought about switching unless they'd come round so it looks like they got me investigating…
