Ebay login/website problems - anyone else seeing this?
Anyone else experiencing extreme problems or unable to login to ebay at the moment?
Typically, when I try to login I get a screen like this:
I try a dozen times, then I get a screen like this:
this refreshes itself for maybe 10 minutes!
then I get the infamous MCaptcha screen:
but it doesn't matter how many times I complete the test, it just cycles round to test again.
End result, I can't login. And I when I look to contact ebay via their help pages, they just take me back to the login screen - so I have no way of contacting them!
I'm assuming ebay's website is broken - or is it only me! :(

Are you using a VPN? if so, disable it. Also try loading it up in an incognito/private browser.
It looks as if the security service the site uses is having a hard time green lighting you as a genuine human.1 -
Thanks both for your comments.
No VPN. But it may be that I type too fast for most genuine humans - this has caused me problems with another site!
I always restart browser and clear cache and cookies before/after trying to login (in fact I wondered if that is part of the problem, as it may appear that I'm logging in for the first time from that device.)
Interestingly, this time I got a slightly different message from hCaptcha - "the sitekey is incorrect" - and it says I need to contact the ebay site admin!
I'll keep trying, if I do manage to login I will try to contact them.0 -
… and a search on the interweb for ebay + the sitekey for this hCaptcha is incorrect reveals that I'm not alone with this issue.
After 16+ years on ebay, it gets less attractive every day…0 -
Not with ebay yet but quite a few websites I use have cloudflare anti bot checks that appears to be spreading
across more and more websites. Plusnet ISP and no VPN.
2 weeks ago the First Direct banking App would not let me login due to the keyboard I chose to use. So I am now
locked out of my First Direct banking. Not even able to login on a PC because it wants to verify using the App
that no longer works.

A step closer to needing Digital-ID to use the internet?
Nope.
What you're experiencing are services that help detect between the human and potentially malicious/automated traffic. This is important when running a website now because bot/automated traffic can cause various problems (buying up all the tickets for a gig, attempts to take a website down etc)
In the case above it just looks like a simple failure of this service0
