I'd at least postpone it. A new baby already having a change in its life and you getting your head around all that's needed is tough enough (though exciting) without taking into account airports, transfers, noise and hassle.

You may even want to change the hotel.

    Congratulations 🎉

It's not the responsibility of the adopter pre-adoption to apply for the passport - this is done by the social work team.

The admin from the Social Work Team apply for the passport using the "normal" passport forms, they just get it signed by a senior manager as "corporate parent" as you stated and include copies of Care Orders etc etc along with birth certificate which they should already have as social work teams have to hold BCs of all children who are in their care.

I would ring the admin of the relevant team, ask who deals with the passports and ask if/when it has been applied for. Hope that helps.

Oh just to add you will also need the consent of a senior manager to take the child out of the county that you are in at any point (even for just an overnight stay) and also taking them abroad, have you got this?

    Hi all,

Just remembered this email chain, so time for a little update. In short, it got as far as the local authority trying but failing to get birth parent's parents date of birth to allow them to apply for a birth certificate - which is a pre-requisite to get a british passport. Which meant that, by 30 days prior to the hotel booking, there was no realistic prospect of getting the passport processed and delivered to us in time. We therefore rearranged the holiday to the same time next year. I suppose that means we have the holiday money sloshing around in a savings account now, which is a bonus.

So we will await the adoption order going through and apply for a passport then (which will be much simpler). And have a holiday in the UK instead :)

Hope there are some useful tidbits in here for others.
