Parking Fine - but i live outside the UK now

Hi All,

I tried to read the FAQ but found it difficult to find something in relation to my situation.

December last year, i sold my house in England and have moved to Italy but i left my 2 cars behind till i bought a place here. 1 is a classic and is still in a garage being restored while the other offending car i left with my friend to use here and there. He took out is own policy for insurance etc.

As i have been away, (9 months) i got the V5 changed to my mums address and asked her to open my mail…she never did and just said the car stuff is here now… I asked my Brother to check if anything is outstanding and he said a PCN from UK CPM is here and that it has now escalated to DRP saying i owe £280 for my friend overstaying in a car park.

The place in question have said, its too far down the line for them to intervene now as well.

I don't know where to start on this as its so far down the line and could have been resolved at a much earlier stage if picked up sooner.

Can i literally just tell them i wasn't the driver as i been in Italy for 9 months, also i dont want him to cough up £280 for something that if he was made aware of straight away he would have got cancelled.

I am literally coming over this Friday to ensure our movers take our belongings from storage to Italy, check on the progress of my classic car and literally close off anything outstanding so i want to deal with this asap.

The fine was from early May just fyi

Thank you in advance for any help

Definitely wasn't a fine, just a pcn, an invoice

Not being the driver is not necessarily a defence point

You should use the DRP ( or DCBL app. ) to change your address for the service of papers to your Italy address

Also copy in the DPO at UK CPM

    £280 is not a normal figure, £170 or £340 ( multiples of £170 ) are the norm ( it can't be £280 for a single pcn. )

I don't see how DRP can be asking for £280, not that you'll ever pay!

I think it's just their usual £170 threatogram (perhaps threatening that the so-called debt can 'increase to £280' if a court claim is filed) as seen in post 4 of NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQs FIRST at the top of the forum.

Nowt to worry about but to kill it off:

email the Data Protection Officers at DRP and UKCPM. Tell them both to erase the old UK address because your permanent domicile is in COUNTRY - full address is xxxxx xxxxxx.

    That's it.

Nothing will happen. No-one comes knocking.

They'll give up if you say the above and attach proof of residence in the other country.

Don't even THINK about your family paying this scam invoice, not even if another letter arrives. Tell them to show you all letters but NOT to return them to sender and NOT to pay or engage.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
