We gave 1000s of books away to a charity when we were trying to declutter the house with a view to selling it. I didn't think they would fetch the cost of postage on ebay. I'm really really impressed if you are making a profit, even a modest profit, selling them! :)

Currently, my rule of thumb is that I can't be bothered to sell anything for less than £25 on ebay. Anything less than that goes straight to the charity shop. Lazy, perhaps?

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Not lazy, rather knowing what you feel is worth your time and effort.

For some people (the following are general observations, not at all aimed at any posters here) getting every possible penny is worth their time and effort, perhaps they need the money, enjoy selling, or the reward of accomplishing that makes it worth it, etc. For other people, they don't enjoy it, and/or it's a lot of effort or inconvenient and they won't list things below a certain value because to them it's not worth it.

In my family, we've been in both positions at different times in our lives! Both are valid.

My books are not standard ones, they are very specialised in certain hobby groups and known to be collectable. My ordinary things, novels , ordinary books etc I also donated , although most of my local charity shops will no longer accept books.

Anglo Doorstep Collections say they take books, limited to 10 boxes of them per collection. (No limit to other things they take.) We haven't used them yet but it's nice to have a glimmer of hope for not having to put perfectly serviceable books in landfill.
