Thank you eskbanker - all I know is Newday told me they managed these other banks as well. It was that statement that made me feel uneasy. Because I was with Newday then the fraudsters had my information that way.

At the end of the day this whole experience, what with BT as well, it has taken over my life since April and it only now seems to being manageable. That is why my decision now is whether to have a Credit Card and if so whose Bank to use.

Do you actually have any evidence that the fraudsters obtained your data from NewDay, or do you just mean that they guessed/changed your password for accessing your JL account?

    1. I saw a suspicious email that I did not recognize. I did not open it and intuition told me, don't know why, to look at my Bank Account online. My bank had stopped a transaction that flagged up as suspicious to them.
    2. I then learnt it was my email that had been hacked and at the same time my mobile phone.
    3. Bank told me to phone other 'banks'.
    4. I phoned John Lewis customer services. They told me to phone Newday and he said card been hacked and he could see the others had been set up also what did I know about them. I said I had never heard of them. Note: I am sure he said they themselves also manage these other Cards. It was the reason I thought I only want a Credit Card, if I have another without the organization managing other banks at the same time.
    5. Newday told me they would do all the Report Fraud and Register me with CIFAS for two years and I would not have to pay. So I did not have to contact Marbles or Zopa.
    6. So!!! I am not saying fraudsters obtained my data from Newday for the others Credit Card companies,. all I know is they said they would deal with it. They said to ignore any letters coming from the others as they will use our address to avoid suspicion.

Bottom line it was my bt email that was hacked and they admitted they had issues a week before and they still had an issue with my email for a month after.

    UPDATE: Just found this -

Marbles is part of NewDay, which also owns credit card companies AquaFluid and Opus

Yes, it's no secret that NewDay is the provider of cards for several brands:

    https://www.newday.co.uk/who-we-are/brands/

However, Zopa isn't one of these, so it's mystifying why a NewDay agent would claim otherwise! Some of the other remarks you've attributed to them don't ring true either, so it remains quite tricky to piece it all together, but it's still not clear to me that a Marbles card was opened in your name specifically because you already had another NewDay card, or simply because it's a subprime product with potentially lower hurdles to opening.

Anyway, hopefully it'll all work out OK for you in the end…

Thank you and at 81 years of age, and the only one who uses the laptop for very basic things, to suddenly have this happen becomes a whole new 'financial hacking' world experience. All I can do is continue as I am and decide whether a credit card is worth me having and if so who do I use.

I am just grateful that I have had all of you to discuss this with. All I know is they did it, and, if I am making all the right decisions to help myself move forward.
