EBay v Vinted

Have traditionally been a long time seller on EBay selling all sorts but majority other halves vast clothing resources (😬).

Haven’t done so much lately as finding Vinted more successful but just as one personal example, did decide to list a pair of trainers on EBay and “paid” to promote them. 2 and a bit weeks and no watchers, no offers, nothing.

Put them on Vinted last night, 12 favourites and 3 offers (one equal to my opening price on EBay) within 3 hours.

I moved a lot of my private items across to Vinted, a real mix of things as I don’t sell clothes , just everything else I even double list less popular items , but keep a very strict eye on sales. Vinted routinely outsells eBay by a high margin although I find some things achieve better prices on eBay and some achieve better prices on Vinted, so I often choose the most suitable one when I list something.

I have also considered upgrading to a pro Vinted account and moving some of my business items across, but reading the Vinted pro forums the constant banning would get me down , and no one has explained satisfactorily yet why I can use Vinted pro as a business but cannot sell commercially.

I think it's just the status quo now that vinted is (mainly) for clothes, and ebay is for everything else.

I have certainly bought quite a few clothing items on there and can often find what I want by brand and size reasonably easily. However I can make sales fairly easily without selling clothes , if I keep listing 3 to 5 items or so a day and send offers I usually manage 3 or 4 sales a day. It’s tailed off a fair bit at the moment , I suspect the summer holidays and hot weather mean people are out more and not browsing, but still selling something most days.

I use both, Ebay for higher priced items and Vinted for lower, but at times have been temporarily banned from Vinted (through no fault of my own). I have now started using another called Reluv. It's new so traffic is a little slow, however its easy to use so doesn't take much time to cross post.

Vinted do seem to be having a few mad months of banning everyone, some of the reasons for banning seem to make no sense.

There are actually new sites springing up all over, as usual I would recommend before using any to do due diligence re money handling and registration. Most of these sites use the Vinted method of holding money until buyer confirms delivery and accepts item, so checking their financial arrangements is a must.

BIdzzy has attracted a lot of Vinted users, but it’s mainly sellers and very few are reporting any real sales yet.

I struggle to sell things on Vinted despite dropping really good name clothes down to £10. Clothes are in great condition. I don't understand it. Its just too cheap now. My friend is having great success on it though and isn't having to drop quite so low. She lives in a different area to me and like me, very used to selling and how to sell so not sure why my things just aren't shifting. Tried selling the same items on ebay but again, no bites. Really odd. Facebook seems to be better for me at the moment but even on that I've struggled with really nice pieces of furniture despite dropping to ridiculous levels.

Also finding my friend "sees" nicer stuff generally when she's buying. Despite putting in deisgner labels I just see tat coming up. Really odd so for me personally I'd love something new to pop up I can try where I don't find people haggling me down to £7 for something I'm selling at £10 thats actually worth £45!

That's really odd what's happening with you and your friend.

I certainly don't take any notice of where the item (purely talking about clothes/shoes here) I'm interested in located (as long as it's here in the UK).

Unless it's a clothes item that I'm really interested in from a good brand (think linen dungarees from White Stuff that retail at £85.00), I don't pay much more than £7.00.

Could it just be the difference between hers and your descriptions and photos?

Poor descriptions and minimal photos really put me off.

Or are you pricing differently? Is she selling cheaper than you?

When you say something is 'worth £45.00' do you mean you paid that amount for it? i.e. RRP

Re your searches, are you both putting in the same criteria?

If you are, I can't see why you'd get different results.

As soon as you take a £45 piece of clothing out of a shop, it's probably worth less than £10 on vinted. It's a jumble sale.

I listed 20 items last weekend, about 7 or 8 sold and I'm up £30. I'm selling "rubbish" second hand and want it out of the house. I suspect a lot of it was expensive when it was bought. But that money was lost on purchase, not on sale.

If it's worth £45 why are you selling it for £10? Or do you mean that you originally paid £45, because those are two very different things…
