I ma looking for a 2 week holiday for myself and 17 year old daughter. Have shortlisted 2 possibilities - Hotel Pical, Porec Croatia or Hotel Marhaba Palace Port el Kantaoui Tunisia.
Any help would be appreciated.

Not been to Tunisia, but been to Porec, a couple of years ago staying in the Hotel Diamant...great hotel and fab location...would recommend both the hotel and Croatia, very italyesque without the prices!
Make sure you check out the Plitvice Lakes and go on the day trip to Slovenia and Lake Bled!0 -
croatia by a country mile!0

We stayed in the Marhaba Beach in Sousse, same chain as Marhaba palace.
Hotel wise- All fine and good, clean, looked after, food got a bit repetitive. Facilities clean and useable. Evening ents sucked.
We went to Port El Kantoui and got bored after an hour. It's a purpose built marina for the locals and everything is tourist prices. If you like going somewhere for just fun and sun, then you'll love port el kantoui. If you like venturing out of the hotel and seeing real life, then Port el kantoui isn't for you.
Can't comment on Croatia!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

We stayed at the Mahaba Palace last July for a week and had a wonderful time. We went with our 2 small children (then aged 2 & 1) and there was plenty for them to do - indoor pool, outdoor pool, kids pool, beach. The staff were fab with the kids. Food did get a bit repetitive but was fine. Tunisia is very cheap. Can haggle prices down in Port el Kantaoui. Pleasant marina, not loads to do in the evenings though, and entertainment at hotel was very limited - fine for us with small kids, but maybe not what you would want.
Bumped into some friends who were also staying at same hotel at same time. They were there for 2 weeks and thought it was a bit too long - due to lack of entertainment in both hotel and Port el Kantaoui.
Hotel was very clean, staff were really nice and helpful and facilities were good.
Hope this helps you decide!!0 -
we stayed in the Occidental Allegro next to port el kantui (all inclusive) a few years back in late november so was pretty quiet, it was a 4 star then and now it's 3* plus.
the hotel was really good, the lounge is like something out of a 5*, the food was excellent, the staff where really good apart from one who had an eye on the wife but a quick work to the head and he didn't come near us again.
there is also a nightclub in the sister hotel that is free to use (open til 2 in the morning)
the entertainment wasn't up 2 much and the local beer/spirits were not really that good but tolerable.
plenty to do during the day at the hotel and taxi's are cheap to get around but if you go to the medina, expect to get hassled with locals trying to drag you into their shops.
the marina if a nice 20 minute walk up the beach where there are plenty of boat trips and nice cafe's.
overall, i did like tunisia but you can get bored quickly out of the hotel complexes and there is not much of a nightlife away from the hotels (at least as we know it).
never been to croatia so can't comment on that but it's on the list.0 -

I've been to Croatia numerous times and I went to Tunisia (Hammamet) this time last year.
I would say Croatia is still a fairly quiet destination. There are quite a few nice natural sights to see. Split and Dubrovnik more than Zageb have historical sites worth visiting. Croatia was very cheap when I first went about 8 years ago, but the price has crept up a little. The bigger hotel chains have been building furiously over the past few years, so the mainstream hotel accomodation is now of more consistant quality. For more info about Croatia, http://www.visit-croatia.co.uk is an excellent site.
I did really enjoy Tunisia, the hotel Rui Park El Kabir and service were excellent. We went on a trip to the Sahara at sunset, which was great. Stopped off at a few other historical sites on the way such as El Jem colosseum and the underground houses at Matmata. The country is Muslim, although not particularly strict, alcohol is freely available to foreigners. We had a fascinating talk from the guide about the countries history, politics and religion on a long coach journey back from the Sahara.0
