Car repair gone wrong
Hello.
I bought a car from a small car dealership in January of this year. In April, I started getting a rattling noise which went away when the clutch was depressed. I contacted the dealership who took my car to the garage they use to take a look with a suspected DMF/clutch failure. They bought the parts in readiness but it turned out to be the clutch guide which had severed on the shaft and it also required new gear cables. They asked if I wanted the DMF and clutch replaced anyway (car had done 40,000 miles, 69 plate vauxhall grandland x) as the labour costs would be the same (from stripping it down) and would save me money in the long run so I agreed. Cost me £960 as they paid for part of the labour as goodwill. 1 week ago, i came off the motorway after doing 100 miles onto the slip road and when changing gear there was a horrendous metallic rattling noise every time the clutch was depressed. Taken it back to the dealership and their garage suspects DMF failure (3 months and 1500 miles post replacement). The dealership has said the garage can only claim the part under warranty but I would be liable for the labour costs which will be high (from stripping it down) and would need to pay for the part upfront until they can prove it is a part issue and then claim it back. This doesn't sit right with me. Anyone been in a similar situation?

DMF failure (3 months and 1500 miles post replacement), I agree, it is not wear n tear, could it be a failure of a different part, some experts will post later.

Best ask on a Vauxhall forum. Could be a known issue.
Me thinks garage are talking 💩As why would dpf cause a noise when clutch depressed? Sounds like clutch has lunched itself.

I think you have misread Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) as Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

Opps. I sure did. 🤦♀️

Given you paid a contribution, it should come fully guaranteed. On your invoice, does it list the whole job?

Yes it lists Clutch and flywheel replacement, wheel alignment, release bearing, drive shaft seal, gearbox oil and gear cable end components. After sending an email stating my legal rights, they have today replied saying the cost of labour to investigate the issue will be £480 which I will not have to pay unless the fault is a different part to the previous repair however they have stated that does not mean they agree to pay for the repair if it is related.
