Car repair issue
I bought a 6 year old car from the local main Nissan dealer back in June 2025, it came with 12 months warranty.
It went back to the dealer in August 2025 with an air conditioning fault and a new condenser was fitted under warranty.
As the weather warmed up earlier this year it became apparent that once again the air conditioner was not working correctly and in June the car went back to the dealer for the issue to be investigated. I was told that the condenser had failed again but the part was not available currently from Nissan. I phoned the Service Department after 6 weeks and was told there was no update on availability.
On the 26th July I emailed the dealers customer service department (using an email address given on there web page, they have many dealerships across multiple car franchise across the south of England) and as yet I have not heard anything back from them.
My car is no longer under warranty but I believe they are obligated to resolve the fault as it was reported and investigated while under warranty.
So my question is where do I stand regarding getting the air conditioner in my car repaired, how long do I have to wait for the dealer to resolve the issue. Could somebody please advise me on my options please.
Regards
Tim

It depends on the terms of the warranty. What do they say?
As a general point of advice, it's sensible to run aircon all year round, not just when warmer weather occurs. The coolant contains a component that preserves the seals in the system. You may well do so, and this problem is clearly a condenser problem, but many people only use aircon when it's hot, and they can find it doesn't work after many months of no use.

As far as I believe is that they are going to replace the condenser under warranty as it states on the invoice they gave me that it would be replaced when in stock.
My question is how long should I wait, contacting there customer service email has not brought about a respond despite now being nearly 10 weeks waiting.
As for using the air con, it is but I am unlikely to feel the lack of cold air in the winter when the heating is on.0 -
Well, given this is a warranty claim, they are bound by the terms of that warranty. If the terms say that a resolution should be completed within x days of notification and if not, then the outcome will be y, then that's what you're entitled to. If they say nothing about timescales, then reasonableness comes into it. It's not a critical function of the car so 10 weeks may not be considered unreasonable, but another 10 might be.
Practically, I think you have two options. Wait, or send a letter before action telling them that if you haven't got a timescale commitment in the next x weeks, you will find a garage that can supply and fit a new condenser, and sue the dealer for the cost.

Air con doesn't just cool the car, it dehumidifies it as well. In the winter, dehumidifying is an important safety feature to clear condensation from the windscreen. It is so important that cars usually have a pre-set switch to run heater and air con together to keep the windscreen safely clear.
