Estate values not accepted on Probate Application

Applying for probate, we used the Gov UK form to calculate IHT (which came out at 0) and transcribed the figures for the net and gross values from the results into the probate application.

We've now received a response to say that two of the figures are wrong "The net value for Probate is higher than the Net value of the estate for IHT which cannot be possible".

We've re-entered all the figures into the IHT calculator and come to the same figures, then checked them against the probate application and they all match.

There's been some communication back and forth but it's slow…send an email then wait a week for a reply asking for more information. Has anyone else had the same issue with a Probate Application?

Thank you.

The value for IHT will always be equal to or higher than the probate value so if it is the other way round you have made an error.. The reason is that jointly owned assets are included for IHT but not probate, the same is true of gifts made in the last 7 years.

Can you give us a rough breakdown of the numbers please?

The same figure was entered for both Net value for probate and Net value of Estate. It's a simple estate, just one ISA needs probate and so there are no debts etc to declare and factor in.

We double checked and there isn't even a typo.

Probate granted this morning after resubmitting the original figures yesterday! :-)

I'm assuming human error their end.

Sounds like it, glad it was sorted so quickly.
