Travel Insurance that covers a Cpap Medical Device

I have to take my cpap machine on holiday with me as hand luggage. I want to ensure my travel insurance covers it. It is around £1000. All the baggage cover I can see on policys state only £400 per item??? I can't find anything in the policy wording for medical devices. I rang one company who said it would be covered under baggage but again they had an item limit of £400. Any help would be appreciated.

What specific risk(s) are you looking to insure against - I'd have thought that most such cover would relate to loss of hold baggage, i.e. stuff that you're not keeping with you all the time?

Does your home insurance cover it?

Home insurance for personal possessions should cover it.

Presumably you would have it with you the whole time so the chances of it getting lost en route are virtually nil. Make sure you are however covered for the condition you have that results in you needing a CPAP machine.

Does your home insurance not include personal possessions cover? Generally its a much better option all round than travel insurance for stuff you take with you often with much higher limits and being new for old rather than indemnity.

Ours covers up to £15,000 of items under £5,000 anywhere in the world for up to 60 days plus then a few items over £5k that are specified.

As MyRealNameToo said, you get a much higher limit with personal possessions on your home insurance. I added it, as my travel insurance only covers up to something like £400.

If you have it through a hospital then speak to the respiratory clinic staff. They've probably been asked this question numerous times

I use a CPAP machine and as already been said, it stays in your possession and goes in the aircraft as additional hand luggage.

Where do you think the risk is to require insurance for it?
