Close to expiry date COVID test kits.

We bought some COVID test kits from Amazon that arrived today.

My FIL has Parkinson's and possibly Dementia and we bought these kits as me and my partner work and meet lots of people due to our work.

We visit him and his son every week and and we take a test before we visit as a precaution.

Anyhow I ordered 50 test kits and they turned up and the expiry date is 9/8/2026.

Will these kits be ok for a few months or will they be no good after that date.

I know they won't be "going off" on the 10/8/26 but wanted peoples feedback.

Should I send them back or keep them?

50 test kits with a short expiry date are not fit for purpose and you are legally entitled to reject them and demand a refund.

Are COVID test kits actually still being manufactured?

If you send these ones back, will there ever be fresh stock to replace them?

I had some out of date ones which I hung onto for awhile after we stopped getting the freebies. When I went to use them, I found out that the liquid had dried up.

Was it from Amazon directly or a third-party seller?

the expiry date is 10/8/2026

Is that UK date format (10 August) or perhaps American (8 October)?

The tests will still work past their expiry, but they will continue to degrade and will be less sensitive and therefore less accurate.

If it was me, Id be sending them back.

Not sure if still manufacturering but FIL mentioned that a neiyof his got some free from the pharmacy due to their illnesses only a week ago.

Given the importance of the context I'd send them back and try to obtain newer ones. Otherwise, you'll be doubting every negative test, or you may get ambiguous results that mean you can't visit.

Yes they're still being manufacturered. COVID is still with us.

If the seller doesn't have fresh stock then they'll just have to refund the OP.
