Generating statements for banks and building societies

I thought this might be a useful list to publish. I've recently had to generate statements from multiple banks/building societies as part of a property purchase. Some were easier to generate statements for than others, please find below a list of the ones I generated statements for with my remarks.

Note this list is certainly not exhaustive as I didn't need to generate additional statements for all banks and building societies that I use.

If anyone else wishes to share their experiences, feel free to do so here.

Bank/Building Society

Remarks

Can generate custom pdf statement at any time in online banking

Buckinghamshire BS

Can generate online at any time, can't customise date range though, but can get up to previous working day.

Cahoot

Can generate custom statement if contacted, best method is to phone them, statement is available as pdf in online banking the next working day. They also send a paper copy and there's no way to disable the paper version.

Cambridge BS

Can generate custom pdf statement at any time in online banking

Chorley BS

Can generate online at any time, can't customise date range though, but can get up to previous working day.

Coventry BS

Can generate custom pdf statement at any time in online banking

Darlington BS

An awkward one, can generate printouts of transactions but they don't show name and address. If you want a statement showing the transactions on your account including name and address you have to phone them and request a transaction list with a cover letter showing your name and address, the transaction list is a printout from their back end system

Dudley BS

First Direct

Can generate custom statement up to the previous working day if contacted via their chatbot, statement is available as pdf in online banking the next working day. They also send a paper copy and there's no way to disable the paper version.

Furness BS

Can generate custom statements anytime, if you send a secure message they send it out by post but if you phone them they can send it as a pdf by email, not all staff know how to do this so you may have to tell them you know someone who had a pdf statement sent previously.

Hanley Economic BS

Can generate custom pdf statements, online secure message has a habit of ignoring the pdf part and sending it by post, however if you phone them they can send the statement by email there and then.

Can generate statements by phoning them, this comes in the post. Beware they have a habit of sending statements of interest instead of lists of transactions so you have to make it very explicit that you want a list of every single individual transaction. I did get £25 as an apology for them sending the wrong statement though.

Moneybox

Can generate custom statements anytime in the app.

FD generated a statement for me for an account I closed in 2019. I called earlier this year and the statement was sent in the post. I didn't think about asking for a pdf statement but then I haven't given FD my email address.

In my case it was all open accounts with FD so it might be that they don't do pdf statements for closed accounts. I know with the NatWest Group if I wanted a statement for a closed account it had to be sent by post, they don't send pdfs for closed accounts.

If this is going to be one of those updated occasionally threads then it might be useful to add a column for how far back statement data is held online.

Some of them - Nationwide and Monmouthshire being examples that come to mind - have relatively short periods for online data, and beyond that you need to phone them to get printouts. Then in Nationwide's case (for example) you might just get a listing from their back office system rather than a formatted statement.

For proof of source-of-funds type enquiries the period of online data/statements might not be enough with some of the banks and building societies.

Lloyds Bank can either download a PDF of the proper statement (the one that looks like the postal version) or a print-friendly version (PDF or direct to printer) by calendar month going back multiple years.

For proof of source-of-funds type enquiries the period of online data/statements might not be enough with some of the banks and building societies.

Typically, it cannot be a print screen. It also must contain the name of the account holders, the address, the sort code and account number.
