New Electric & Gas Tariff or Supplier Advice
Hi, I'm a month to month property guardian where my landlord can give me 28 notice to move. I'm in a 1 bedroom flat & a low gas & electric user. I was on a EDF dual fuel tariff that has just ended, it didn't have an exit fee. I've been looking for another deal but all the ones I see are either the standard variable or a fixed tariff with exit fees. I'm in insecure housing so not worth it to me. I enquired directly with EDF that if I my licence to occupy my current flat ended (could provide proof) & moved into a property where I couldn't transfer my account (share flat, included in monthly fee, etc) & provided proof if I could get out of the fix without paying the exit fee & was advised it wasn't guaranteed. So, any advice on tariffs, new suppliers? I pay by DD. Many thanks :)

You could try Home Energy; reports on this forum are that they're fairly cheap and only offer a variable tariff, so no lock-in or exit fees.

Ahh, OK. Will check them out. I'm a low user so it's not a lot that I pay, but still. I saw the no standing fee (electric only I think) from EDF currently on trial, paying a higher usage fee. Probably a false economy in summer as winter will be more. Need to run the numbers. I liked the Sunday super saver offer from EDF but not wedded to them.
Many thanks!

EDF Low SC Trial has been available only to customers on Freephase Tariff, no exit fees, ideal if use relatively low amounts of electricity between 4pm-7pm
( Static version is safest option)

The current low SC trials AFAIK - are based on an Ofgem agreed plan - or at least more than 1 supplier shares the combined £150 reduction in dual fuel SC (around half the regional average) - so they aren't zero SC but low SC trials anyway - and are limitted (in the 10,000s for companies 0.5% range - with in Octopus case c6m customers. They are also at least at Octopus - fixes with exit fees
So back to variable / flexible options
Before the trials - only one - Utilita - still did a zero SC contract - and even they reduced it to PAYG basis (it was DD/credit until maybe just over a year ago) but charged more for iirc 1st 2kWh per day.
It may have changed in light of new trials though.
But in past AFAIK if SR as a rought gide to how it worked - for electric - if rate was say 30p/kWh and SC 60p - you might pay c60p/kWh first 2 units, 30p beyond. Use only one unit - pay only for it and half the SC.
How low is your gas and electric use per day - does it clip below 2kWh on many days ?
Does the flat have working (communicating) smart meters ? If so - have a look at Utilita - and their banded tariff - if still do their PAYG zero SC / approx first 2kWh per day higher rate pays standing charge - tariff ?

Hi, many thanks. Yes, I have smart meters. I'll take a look.
