Non paying bidders

It seems that at least once a month someone bids on an item early in the listing and then there`s radio silence. Auction is over and there`s no payment..

This week`s it`s a 6 litre slow cooker which is bulky. No response to any messages. I really hate waiting 4-5 days before I can cancel the transaction.

What do other sellers think? I have now blocked him.

If by "someone" you just mean different, established Ebay buyers - it happens. You should just assume that it's one of the hidden costs of selling on Ebay.

If by "someone" you mean the same individual then the situation is (obviously) completely different. Blocking and reporting him/her will resolve the immediate problem - but if you have made a motivated "enemy", they may keep coming back with new identities.

Just to confirm it isn`t the same individual but a different buyer. He bid quite early on in the auction so had plenty of time to request cancellation. Roll on Tuesday when I can cancel the sale.

Sometimes something happens to stop a buyer paying.

I usually leave it for a few days then send a friendly reminder.

Then another reminder just to say I'm cancelling the sale if payment isn't received by X date/time.

One buyer had been in hospital and another had broken their phone.

I tend not to bother contacting buyers- ebay inundate them with reminders already - and I have my settings set to automatically close the sale with an NPB strike on day 4. I also exclude buyers who have 2 or more strikes in a year, and that used to (I can't find how to view my block list data now) show a lot of people being stopped by that.
