Royal Fail

Yet another huge failure with the Royal Mail website. Following the EU's anti-business ruling that massively increases customs duty and fees for items being shipped to EU countries, the Royal Mail now gives the option on their site to pay the customs duty as the sender, or opt for the recipient to pay. Yet when you choose that the recipient should pay, the site ignores you and attempts to charge you the full amount.

And we're not talking pennies. A large letter containing an item worth £26, sending to Ireland, has gone up from £9.80 to £21.42.

It's quite incredible that the Royal Mail can implement this functionality without bothering to test it. As a business customer I'm putting a stop to EU sales as of today, because to be honest whoever pays those fees is being extorted, and I wouldn't expect my customers to do so any more than I would. I imagine for some people, however, the decision isn't that simple.
