Anyone got an opinion on this?

Not my house, I’m informally monitoring some work for someone else.

Previously there was a downpipe which seems to have gone awol but went onto the patio not directly into a drain.

I don’t think the property owner has given explicit instructions other than to say please sort this out and is not asking the workman to send photos of what they’ve done - he previously said he’d fixed this issue when he hadn’t.

I have my own views on the quality of work carried out in other areas.

Personally, I don't see any problem with this assuming that the gutter is cleaned on a regular basis.

Any other solution, most likely, would be FAR more laborious and expensive (or ugly).

Are both gutters part of the same property? If not, then that raises its own issues.

But, assuming they are, you asked for opinions:

• Personally, I think it looks pig-ugly
• What was asked for and paid for? if it was the cheapest "fix it" quote on facebook, then that's what they asked for.
• In heavy rain, there could be "splashback" where the pipe flows into the gutter, both into the wall, and onto anyone below. This could possibly allow water ingress under the tile too.
• There is a risk that the total amount of water from the roof will be too much for that gutter that is taking the flow form the whole roof, resulting in a free shower in heavy rain. This won't be apparent until there is heavy rain.

Very poor workmanship. The top joint has sagged and in heavy rain could pour water in the wall. There is also a hole in the wall with a cracked brick that needs sorting.

I'm not sure its even sagged. I think its just been wedged under the tile to keep it in place, rather than it using any proper fixings.

I think it's pretty obvious it's a bodge, but it depends on whether your friend asked for the cheapest option to stop the rainwater draining on to the patio. I'd guess if you watched it in heavy rain it would be overflowing into the short verge and at the point where it empties into the other gutter.

I can't see any time served tradesman leaving a job like that.

It looks terrible and in the near future it will cause a lot of issues with the property and I am glad I am not the owner,/resident or living next door to them.

I hope they haven't paid all the money for that work yet.

Eaves could be rotten on that corner, it's drooping, unusual hole and pointing to attend to, as well as the pipe, which doesn't look new

I unfortunately live next door. Lovely long-standing neighbour moved out and sold to a London property investor who never visits and relies on dodgy workman to fix what they think needs doing and charge them accordingly.

I send them W T F emails when I spot something worrying. Like workman ignoring a missing downpipe. This sort of thing tends to be the outcome. I’m treading a bit of a line between keeping them informed and them stopping responding to me completely. Although they sent the workmen out to do this fix, they didn’t reply to my email telling them that he hadn’t done it in the first place, even though they’d showed him my initial pictures (this is the second lot ) and he said it was sorted.

He might not want to pay to have it done properly. Without seeing the whole back, I'd say one method would be to drop a downpipe from that corner to an Aco drain and connect to the downpipe and drain at the other end(not showing).
