HMRC refund cheque

HMRC refund cheque. Many co ops are closed on a Saturday. My parents deposited my cheque for co op and it cleared today in a post office and it cleared today, so that's 6 days from Saturday

Were you offered the option of an electronic payment? If you'd selected that payment would almost certainly have been with you even before the cheque arrived in the post (actually it's not a cheque, it's a Payable Order, very similar except HMRC set an expiry date, usually 6 months, so it has to be deposited within that time).

Are you trying to say they paid it into the PO because Co-op was closed? Cheques paid in over a post office counter take longer so 6 days seems pretty good to me.

Paying a cheque in to the post office is similar to putting it in the post to your bank as far as timescale is concerned. It takes around 2 working days for the cheque to be received by the bank so paying it in on a Saturday is effectively Monday, the bank would receive it on Wednesday and cleared into your account by Friday

If you're regularly dealing with cheques and payable orders get a current account with a smartphone/tablet app which allows cheque scanning e.g., Lloyds/BoS, Barclays, , RBS/NatWest, Santander and HSBC.

ChatGPT says it will clear on Wednesday/thursday. As I'm in hospital and mum has power of attorney on my account, i asked her yesterday and she said it's not there. I asked again today and she said it's there. So all in all 6 days if you minus the weekends 4 days to clear.

Well that's good to know, it takes a Payable Order from HMRC 4 working days to clear if you pay it into a Post Office.

And ChatGPT doesn't always get things right.
