LPA Problems

We have set up LPA's (my wife and I) in the most straightforward way with a solicitor and sent off all the forms in February 2026. We got notification from the Public Guardian that both LPA's had been registered on the 8th June 2026. Eventually my wife's official LPA arrrived at the solicitors and a registered copy sent to us. My LPA did not appear and after calls from our solictor we were told we would have to wait a few weeks before Public Guardian could chase it in case it popped up out of the system. Today 28 July 2026 the solicitor called to say that the LPA we recieved for my wife actually has my ref number (put on by the Public Guardian) on it and I have no idea where mine is currently. This mistake was only uncovered by the solicitor instigating the search. So the LPA we have for my wife is totally invalid and mine is somewhere in the system. Luckily the need for us to use our LPA's has not arisen during this period and we are beginning to wonder if it was worth the cost and effort to get it done in the first place.

Yes it is worth it, this is just a glitch that the OPG will sort out,

If you don’t have one and and you lose capacity to manage your finances then it would require a deputyship application through the court of protection. That is more expensive, takes a lot longer (at its worst it was taking upwards of 18 months) and has an ongoing annual fee.

So yes, they are worth it.
